In honor of International Museum Day, why not celebrate the museums that give visitors unrivaled access to everything we love about engineering?
International Museum Day takes place on 18 May, and if you live in a city or town with a museum, why not find out if your local museum is running a promotion to give free entry on the day or presenting a talk about an exhibition?
The day was started in 1977 by the International Council of Museums (ICOM) to draw attention to the impact of museums on individual and broader communities, and also the value they have socially and economically.

Population growth, global warming, and the advancement of technology have meant that Agriculture Automation is a needed and positive response to traditional agriculture.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) allows for better monitoring of global crops and all-important data on what is available in terms of food resources and vital resources for the world, like water management.

Why Automate Agriculture?
In the 2016 paper Automation in Agriculture: A Study the dawn of automation was explored.
When it comes to automation and bold headlines like ‘robots taking human jobs’ one thing is almost never mentioned – how humans are able to keep their jobs despite digitization.
A big factor that allows humans to still outperform machines and automation is the application of soft skills.
Robots have to compete with humans too
Think of it almost like a professional competition, and just like humans have to face colleagues to climb the corporate ladder, so do robots.

A group of lecturers and students from the EIT Melbourne Campus Master of Engineering (Industrial Automation) program visited Elenium Automation in May.
This visit showed the practical science of AI technologies and covered self-help automation at airports, and how these technologies are improving user experiences.
Elenium Automation is an Australian AI success story, having entered the market with VYGR. The system is a touchless check-in biometric suite for passengers to control parts of their journey easily.
We love new technology, it is what is driving the human race forward to find solutions to life’s biggest problems. In fact, technology like facial recognition streamlines simple tasks like unlocking your phone.

But it also creates a space for nefariousness. In 2016 an alarming realization was made when Apple’s iPhone couldn’t recognize users with deep or deeper skin tones.
In fact, the technology was predominately tested on white people and people with light skin tones, excluding consumers that don’t embody those physical traits since the technology was simply unable to recognize their skin.
